My Final project of the second year of my Degree, this project was born in lockdown.
This project explores the theme of female ‘madness’, with reference to novels of the 19th century where many women are branded as ‘mad’ when they are actually simply doing or saying things men disapprove of. The word hysteria, often used to describe woman in this period originated from greek word “hystera” or uterus.
"I have continued to be interested in water; the journey of water across the landscape, the journey to the sea that i so long to make, to go home. I particular, the wide, open spaces of estuaries have been a space I’ve become fascinated with, they are both a lonely, isolated place and a place of meeting(for many rivers). Perhaps I just want to explore these themes as a type of therapy while in isolation myself"
