Jo Wood Jewellery
JWJ is driven by creativity. For Jo our founder making beautiful pieces isn't enough. Every JWJ piece is imbued with years of research and development of idea so the jewellery is an expression of a fully formed narrative and concept.
Jo is inspired by rich organic textures, unable to find this using traditional techniques she developed a process called 'Earth Casting' which uses soil to texture the surface gold and silver. This technique informed Jo’s First collection ‘Touch the Earth’
“I make jewellery because I am drawn to its glamour and opulence and because human connection to jewellery is as deep rooted as our connection to nature which is a key inspiration.”
Touch the Earth
These rings were the beginning and are the core of the Jo Wood Jewellery brand. Jo made a limited run of thirty signets that made up the ready to wear collection 'Touch the Earth' Which was the manifestation of three years of study on 3D Design and craft at the university of Brighton.
These Signet rings were made using Earth casting. The technique is experimental and unrepeatable. As the molten metal is poured into the Earth, the Earth becomes burnt and unusable. So by definition each pieces is one of a kind, the texture differs ring to ring.
Even though Jo’s work has expanded and developed since this collection it is still the inspiration for a lot of custom pieces and therefore special to the brand!
Each link of this chain is individually cast into Earth meaning the texture differs link to link. Some links are more heavily textured and pitted than others.
La Bella Figura
la Bella Figura; to make a beautiful figure is a pre-eminent Italian phrase is summed up by making a good impression. It is about looking good, being chic and having a sense of respect.
Split into two, as a fashion house would this collection is made of both ready to wear and haute couture pieces.
la Bella Figura; to make a beautiful figure is a pre-eminent Italian phrase is summed up by making a good impression. It is about looking good, being chic and having a sense of respect.
la Bella Figura celebrates the glamourous. inspired by religious metal work of the byzantine era this collection embodies ostentatious glamour.
The almost gaudy artefacts that informed this collection seem to get away with the impolite wealth of their form with their stunning craftsmanship. So playing with this adorned couture, this impolite glamour was the heart of this collection.
